Shellclaw sat down when he finished stretching, looking at the clouds and lost in thought. When he heard his name, he snapped back into reality. "Oh, hello Swanpaw." he meowed to his apprentice.

Lillypool laughed. "Especially if you've got long fur." she meowed, shaking her own pelt.

Brackenpool looked up at the sky, then walked over to Ashpaw. "Ashpaw, come on, we're heading out. The patrol's been out long enough to have been to the border." he trotted over to the entrance.

Ashpaw grinned at her statement. "Especially." he agreed, then flicked his ears, hearing his mentor. He grinned jumping to his paws. "Well, that' me. See you Lillypool!" he called following Brackenpool into the territory.

"Um," What to say? She didn't want to come off as a silly kit, or as being rude, "Are we working on anything today?" The idea of training with her mentor for the first time brought back the excitement she'd felt, and she decided to be more bold, "I'd love to see the territory."

Lillypool smiled. "See you too, Ashpaw." she meowed, standing up. She looked up into the sky and sighed, unsure of what to do while in camp.

Shellclaw blinked, realizing he'd never taken Swanpaw out training, or shown her the territory. "Well, I guess I'd better show you the territory first, before we start any training." he said. "If you'd like we can do both; see the territory and train?"

"Great! I'd like that," Swanpaw grinned, excited. She'd heard Shellclaw was an even better fighter than he was a fisher, and he was good at fishing. She couldn't wait to start training with him. She only hoped she could meet his expectations despite her slight figure and her distaste for any kind of killing.

Shellclaw nodded. "Good," he meowed, "Get something to eat first, then we'll head out."

Swanpaw darted off, full of anticipation. She took a fish off the freshkill pile and ate it as quickly as she could without being too sloppy. When she was done, she took a couple deep breaths to calm herself, then she went over to Shellclaw. Trying to muster a calm tone, she said, "I'm ready."

Shellclaw started staring at the clouds again while waiting for his apprentice, then looked down when she came back. "Good." he meowed simply, standing up. "Let's go then." He padded out of camp, checking for Swanpaw over his shoulder.

Ashpaw followed his mentor back into camp, carrying the tansy in his jaws, his pelt now almost dry from their River swim.

Brackenpool set the thyme in its correct place in the medicine cat den, then he stretched. "What' are juniper berries used for?" he suddenly quized Ashpaw.

Ashpaw squinted as he thought, trying his best to remember. "Ummm....." he said, giving himself more time as he went through. "Umm.." Then it came to him, since Juniper Berries were the only berries that they used. "Bellyaches!" he mewed confidently. "And....umm..." he said, now struggling. "Strength, maybe?" he added, knowing he was missing some other things.

Brackenpool nodded to Ashpaw. "Yes, good. It can also be used to help calm cats." he walked over to his store and picked up a small white flower with a yellow center. "This is chamomile. It's used as a traveling herb and it strengthens the heart."

Silverstar watched the medicine cat and apprentice, her eyes bright.

Ashpaw nodded, repeating it over and over in his head. Chamomile - Traveling Herb and strengthens the heart. Chamomile - Traveling Herb and strengthens the heart. He squinted as he tried to recall the name of the root used for rat bites. "What's the root that we use to heal rat bites?" he asked. It wasn't one often used by RiverClan, so he had trouble remembering it.

"Burdock root." Brackenpool asnwered with a nod. "Marigold will also work for rat bites, but not like burdock root does. Rat bites always seem to get infected." he went to the very back of his store and pulled up a small root. "This is the only one that we have right now....we rarely need it, but I like to have at least one just in case. "You simply squeeze the juices out of it and onto the bite."

Ashpaw nodded, committing it to memory, and hopefully he didn't forget this time. "Right, right..." he murmured, running over what he was learning in his head.

Brackenpool nodded once more, convinced that Ashpaw knew what he what he had explained.  "Let's take a small break to let both our minds settle and get something to eat."

Silverstar got to her paws, padding to the fresh kill pile. She looked at the few fish that where left and sighed. "The river will soon be frozen." she said to herself, feeling the cold air hit her.
